A piece of history is returning to Wausaukee, Wisconsin, after some work by the brotherhood of firefighers.
The fire chief there now has the keys to a 1930 REO Speed Wagon fire truck that was Wausaukee's first motorized truck. The exchange took place on Thursday at the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association conference at the DECC.
"I just want to thank everybody that was involved. I was born and raised in Wausaukee. I've spent my life there. A lot of my family saw this truck and was involved with it," Chief Eric Edlebeck said. "It really means a lot." The MSFCA had the truck since the 1990s. A retired fire fire marshal named Tom Brace kept good care of it. But the association eventually decided to sell it. They found out it originally belonged to Wausaukee, and through the fire family connections, were able to let Wausaukee know it was for sale. Wausaukee was the highest bidder in a sealed bid sale.
