Onalaska’s fire department is in new hands for now. Troy Gudie was appointed Monday as the interim fire chief for the city of Onalaska. He’s stepping in for former chief Billy Hayes who abruptly resigned last week. Gudie was previously the assistant fire chief to Hayes. He says he would need to think more about taking the full time position. “The time commitment, that’s the thing you’ll really have to consider because it is a big role to protect a city of this size plus working with your neighboring departments as well,” said Gudie. In addition to a new chief, the department is currently doing interviews for full-time firefighters.
