Four fire departments in Rock County announced Monday a partnership that will help with decreasing emergency response times.
Thanks to automatic vehicle locator technology, fire departments from Janesville, Milton, the city of Beloit and the town of Beloit, will now support each other’s communities regardless of municipal boundaries. The new technology uses GPS to dispatch the closest available emergency response vehicles to a variety of calls, including car accidents, fire alarms and medical emergencies.
“When our residents experience an emergency, they need the fastest response possible,” City of Beloit Interim Fire Chief Dan Pease said. “By working together, we are able to more effectively render aid regardless of boundaries.”
The four fire departments are the first of 11 in Rock County to adopt the new technology.
