The City of Milwaukee is known for coming together to help those in their time of need. Right now, a fundraiser for a former firefighter is offering the opportunity to help a family in need after he devoted much to the community. In February of 2016, Derek Geppert was 35-years-old and a firefighter with the Milwaukee Fire Department for over five years, until he had a stroke. Around the same time his wife, Melissa (Missy) was diagnosed with cancer. The two worked together to support their their kids during this tough time. While Missy was battling cancer, Derek suffered an additional five large strokes in December of 2016, at which point the doctors stopped counting according to the family because they were happening so rapidly. Derek began going through a long list of therapies, ranging from speech therapy, to physical therapy.
