Josh Bostedt is the new chief of Oconto Fire Rescue Department.
Bostedt, the department’s deputy chief since March 2019, had been serving as interim chief since the retirement of John Reed on June 15.
The Police and Fire Commission decided in April that it didn’t need to waste time on a search for a new chief.
“He has a ton of respect from the commission,” said Russ Young, commission chairman. “We’re very familiar with his character.”
Bostedt was given the interim title for his protection, so in case he decided within six months he didn’t want the job permanently, he could return to his union position, Young explained.
At its July 6 meeting, the commission approved Bostedt’s request to remove the “interim” tag from his title.
