Typically, Western Lakes Fire District will assist people during trying and difficult times. But in May, the fire district took part in a positive experience for everyone involved.
Town of Lisbon firefighter Justin Sayre had been dating Kelly Cook, a Summit resident and nurse, for nearly two years. When Sayre saw a video proposal from a firefighter a year ago, he was inspired to do something similar for his proposal.
"I had a million different ideas running through my head," Sayre said. "This COVID thing put a big wrench in my plan. I started looking at rings in early February, then (the pandemic) happened, so I couldn't get the rings from the jeweler."
When an idea formed, Sayre reached out to Western Lakes for help.
