Dave Dean has retired as chief of the Hartland Fire Department.
In a resignation later dated Feb. 27, Dean said he had been contemplating retirement for some time.
"I have had a fantastic opportunity to switch gears moving forward," Dean wrote. "This has been a difficult decision, however it is time. I will retire as of March 1, 2020."
In a telephone interview with Lake Country Now, Dean said he has opportunities that involve state government, but nothing is official yet.
"I'm really excited," Dean said. "I have some state opportunities here, but I don't want to jinx myself. But I'm excited for the opportunity to switch gears and maybe get involved with state government."
Dean served 25 years in the fire department, the last four as chief. In total, he has 32 years of experience in fire service.
