The state Department of Natural Resources and National Weather Service have issued a red flag warning for 12 central Wisconsin counties out of concern for brewing wildfire conditions.
The warning includes Jackson, La Crosse, Trempealeau, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Marquette, Waushara, Wood, Portage, Waupaca and Green Lake counties.
Such warnings are issued when warm temperatures, low humidity, high winds and dry fuels are occurring at the same time, presenting a danger of wildfires.
The DNR said it expects dry, elevated fire conditions to continue until Monday and possibly as late as Tuesday when rain is expected.
The DNR and weather service are asking people to be careful with campfires, ashes from fireplaces, outdoor grills, smoking, chainsaws and off-road or other small engine vehicles. All burn permits have been suspended.
