A woman was injured and a dog was killed in a house fire Sunday in Lincoln County. Authorities responded around 4:50 p.m. to a report of a kitchen fire in a home on County P in Merrill, according to the Pine River Fire Department. Officials said a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene first and tried to use a fire extinguisher on the fire, but he was driven out by heavy smoke. Firefighters fought the fire inside and contained it mostly to the kitchen. They also worked for hours checking walls and the ceiling for more fire in the old farm house. Officials said the homeowner, a 50-year-old Merrill woman, was injured in the fire and taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
