Gov. Tony Evers announced Friday that he has appointed a former Marshfield firefighter-paramedic as the new Wood County coroner. David Patton will take the position left vacant since former Coroner Scott Brehm resigned May 15. Patton has been a deputy coroner in Wood County since March 2020. He has performed death investigations and worked with local police and fire departments, according to the governor's office. Patton spent nearly 23 years as a firefighter and paramedic with the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department before he joined the Wood County Coroner's Office, according to the governor's office. "I am confident that Dave Patton will continue to serve the folks of Wood County with the same level of commitment as coroner as he has shown as deputy coroner," Evers said in a prepared statement.
