The Milton Town Board during a special meeting Thursday night received a draft petition from the town attorney and board chairman in which the town of Milton asks the Edgerton Fire Protection District Board to allow the town to join the district. The draft could be modified to change the name of the town in the document so the others currently covered by the Milton Joint Fire Commission—Lima, Johnstown and Harmony—could use it, too. Milton Town Attorney Michael Oellerich said he and town board Chairman Bryan Meyer worked on the petition and presented it to Edgerton Fire Chief Randall Pickering, who then asked members of the fire protection district for thoughts. Oellerich said the petition tells Edgerton fire officials that their current operating agreement is agreeable for the town of Milton and that it would not angle for significant changes as a new member.
