Follow-up: 13 Patients Transferred to Other Hospitals Following Gas Leak at St. Elizabeth in Appleton

Thirteen patients at Ascension St. Elizabeth Campus in Appleton were transferred to other local hospitals Thursday following a chemical gas release. Hazardous materials crews were called to the northwest portion of the hospital at 9 a.m. Appleton Fire was notified to check the air quality. According to the hospital’s statement: Out of an abundance of caution and because the Emergency Department is in close proximity to the affected area, 13 patients were transferred to other local hospitals. There was limited exposure to associates, who were immediately treated for minor symptoms and released. No serious injuries were reported. The fire department remediated the situation and managed the air quality. At 11:15 a.m., the hospital says evacuation and diversion measures were lifted and normal operations resumed.
