A Fire Lookout tower in Oconto County is the only tower in the Chequamegon- Nicolet National Forest where visitors can still climb to the top and in 2015, it underwent an extensive renovation. The Mountain Fire Lookout Tower has been standing in this spot in rural Oconto County since the nineteen thirties. When at the lookout tower, visitors experience a 360 degree view and sights of up to fifteen miles. Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest District Recreation Supervisor, Lance Waller, says the tower "is a very popular tourist attraction now, one of many in northern Wisconsin in the Chequamegon Nicolet." Waller oversees the forest surrounding the tower. He says the many tourists who visit each summer appreciate all the natural beauty the site offers.
