The chief of the Pittsville Fire Department in Wood County has been named as this year's Hero of Hope by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, Jerry Minor received the honor, which is focused on shedding light on rural heroes who have helped others through a tough time. Minor has played a significant role in creating a partnership with the National Farm Medicine Center in his area.
He is committed to equipping rural Wisconsin firefighters with proper training and equipment to properly respond to rural emergencies. Jerry has also partnered with area farmers to host hands-on training demonstrations and is a strong advocate for youth fire safety education.
"Jerry is the person that calms your fears, dries your tears and makes your worst days a little better," his nominators said.
