A fire Sunday afternoon at the Karakahl Country Inn in Mount Horeb displaced 16 people who were staying there, according to the Mount Horeb Area Joint Fire Department.
A fire broke out at the motel, located at 101 Perimeter Rd., around 2 p.m. Sunday. Fire crews arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the building. Fire units from Verona, Black Earth, Barneveld, New Glarus and Cross Plains assisted in extinguishing the fire, which was put out at 2:45 p.m. Fire crews remained on scene removing smoke and heat from the building.
The American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no estimate of damages at this time.
