Onalaska Fire Chief Troy Gudie will retire after 34 years, the City of Onalaska announced Monday.
Gudie started as a volunteer in 1989 before being hired on full-time in 1993. He eventually served 17 years as the Assistant Chief and was promoted to Fire Chief in 2020.
Gudie says two accomplishments that stand out over the years were the implementation of a local high school Fire and EMS Academy with Western Technical College and reaching an agreement to provide fire services for the entire Town of Onalaska.
"Keeping our children, families and senior citizens safe from fire is a challenging but rewarding responsibility," Gudie said. "It has been an honor working with so many wonderful people in our community for the past 34 years."
Gudie said he is grateful for his team and their accomplishments over the years.
After spending the last three years of his career as chief, he said he is ending his career on a high note.
