A fire at a home in Madison's Greenbush neighborhood Tuesday afternoon displaced two people, the city's fire department said.
A passerby reported seeing smoke while walking past the home in the 1100 block of Drake Street around 1:45 p.m., according to a Madison Fire Department incident report. The man then knocked on the door to alert anyone inside before calling 911; no one was inside at the time the fire broke out.
When firefighters got to the scene, they found smoke in multiple areas of the home and fire in the basement. After putting out the flames, firefighters checked for any potential extension before declaring the fire extinguished just before 2:20 p.m.
The fire, which is still under investigation, caused extensive damage to the home. No one was hurt.
