Madison fire crews contain gas leak after crash damages gas line, meters

Madison fire crews contained a gas leak Wednesday after a gas line and meters were damaged in a crash, officials said. Crews were called to an apartment in the 4300 block of Britta Drive just before 8:14 p.m. on Wednesday after a vehicle struck a building. A gas line and four natural gas meters were damaged in the crash. The driver was not injured, but crews were forced to shut a natural gas valve to stop the gas from leaking. Firefighters checked for natural gas and carbon monoxide inside the building and found none. Officials said there was no structural damage to the building aside from a broken exterior glass pane near the gas meters. Madison Gas and Electric crews were able to fix the damaged line and meters.
