One person is safe after a mobile home caught fire early this morning in Oconto County.
Fire swept through the home on Whipporwhill Lane at about 5:30. The property is about a mile off Highway 41, in the town of Pensaukee. The person who lived here got out.
The flames were out but the building was still smoking when our Action 2 News crew arrived on the scene at about 6:30 a.m. Video from the scene shows the home is charred on the inside.
Four fire departments worked to put the fire out. The fire chief said fighting a fire inside a mobile home can be a challenge. “Mobile homes are made of lighter material, and the biggest challenge is the flooring. It’s substantial to hold you up but it burns quicker, so you really don’t want to go inside if you don’t have to because there’s a chance you could fall through it,” Chief Pat Aerts of the Pensaukee Fire Department said.
