Spent fireworks were found after a garbage truck fire Tuesday on the city’s east side, Madison Fire Department reported. MFD said a city garbage truck driver was driving when he saw smoke coming from the back of his truck. He pulled over onto S. Marquette St. and called police. Officials said the driver tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher. Firefighters later arrived on the scene and went into the hopper in the middle of the truck where the fire was still active. Officials then climbed up the side of the truck and used water to put out the fire in the hopper. Water and foam were used to put the fire out. Firefighters later noticed used fireworks found at the bottom of the hopper.
