Authorities in Fox Crossing say one cat is dead and two people are now without a home following a fire Sunday afternoon.
According to a release from the Fox Crossing Fire Department, crews responded at 12:59 p.m. to a two-story, multi-family apartment building on the 700 block of Wanda Avenue for reports of a fire.
Upon arrival, officials say smoke was seen coming out of the front door of the apartment on the first floor of the building.
All residents of the apartment were evacuated and three cats were removed from the building prior to fire crews extinguishing the fire in the living room and ventilating the building of smoke and gasses.
After searching the building, one other cat was found and immediately removed from the building with firefighters attempting life-saving measures.
