The volunteer chief of Silver Creek Fire Department was recently honored for his contributions to the department and fire safety in the community.
The Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association recognized Chief Todd Stange as the 2024 Volunteer Chief of the Year.
“The award was very special to me and (our) small fire department,” Stange said in an email. “This award is not only mine but it also goes to the rest of the Silver Creek Fire department. Without these amazing volunteers, this truly would have never happened.”
In early 1995, Stange joined the department with Paul Hartmann, who is now the assistant fire chief at SCFD. Stange said he was new to the area, out of college and wanted to join because the department had low membership. He became the assistant chief in 1999 and chief in 2005.
