PHOTO: The Sheboygan Fire Department has a bright, shiny, new piece of apparatus that offers advanced options in order to save lives. The engine, known as Rescue 1862, follows the SFD’s new black-over-red color scheme and was placed into service just under a month ago at fire station 2 on South 18th and Mead Avenue. The new unit holds 750 gallons of water in its tank, and when hooked up to a hydrant can deliver 1500 gallons of water per minute, and can deliver foam when needed. As well as improved ability to extinguish a blaze, the new unit is also better equipped to save lives. The new pumper carries extrication equipment for removing people from motor vehicles or heavy equipment accidents, along with new technology that can be used in such scenarios as high angle, confined space and trench rescues.
