Fire claims home on Washington St. in Grafton

Crews were called to the scene of a working structure fire at approximately 10:40 p.m., Wednesday night. Arriving on the scene on East Washington Street, members of the Grafton Fire Department reported that heavy flames and smoke were showing in the residence. The crews sprang into action to combat the blaze, which ultimately claimed the structure. One fire department member reported that crews were on the scene until approximately 5:00 a.m., Thursday morning. The family was home at the time of the fire, and were evaluated by the Taylor County Emergency Squad, who remained on scene in the event their services were needed. Crews from the Flemington Volunteer Fire Department and Fellowsville Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid during the night. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department and Grafton Police Department also responded to the scene to help with traffic control.
