The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Winfield Police Department held the 7th annual memorial DUI checkpoint for Putnam County Deputy Sheriff Larry "Eddie" Miller who was killed by a drunk driver on December 5, 2006. "Struck Eddie and unfortunately he died at the scene there,” said Deputy Sheriff Steve Deweese. Years after his death Miller is still remembered as someone who did everything 100 percent. "He was very dedicated and he was a perfectionist. He always wanted to be one of the best,” Deweese said. Sheriff Deweese has fond memories of working with Eddie and speaking about him is still hard. "I've got chills right now talking about it,” he said. The deputy also gave his time to help others outside of work. He was a member of the Army Reserves, but his commitment to community didn't stop there. "He was a volunteer firefighter in the Winfield department,” said Deweese.
