A fire Thursday at Terrace Park East Apartments, on Charleston’s East End, left a man and a woman injured.
Andrew Palmer, who is sergeant-at-arms of the West Virginia Senate, said he smelled the fire shortly after it began. He was able to break down the door to the burning third-floor apartment and carry a woman out before she was badly injured. A man in the apartment, however, suffered significant burns and was in critical condition, said Charleston Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Wanner.
Both were transported to an area hospital. Updates on their conditions weren’t available at press time.
Palmer said that when he went back inside to get the man, he couldn’t find him and the flames were becoming too large. He said he then instructed another man, who helped him bust down the door, and his girlfriend to call 911.
