An elderly Summit Point man, who was injured after a fire ignited in his home Thursday, has died, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty.
“We understand Roland Cox died,” Dougherty said Tuesday. “He had some serious health issues and suffered burns and smoke inhalation during the fire. We understand the DC Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.”
Roland Cox, 84, and his wife Patsy Cox were able to escape their home due to the help of their neighbors.
The home is located on Lewisville Road in Jefferson County.
The neighbors helped Roland Cox, who was not able to get around well, get out of the burning home, Sgt. Fletcher, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said after the fire.
