On Saturday, a group of rescue vehicles responded to the Dairy Creme Corner in Fairmont.
They weren’t there for an emergency, but rather for a morning of education as kids who came for ice cream were allowed to look inside fire trucks, rescue vehicles and an ambulance to learn about their local heroes.
“It’s basically just a first responders day,”?Jim Martin, chief of the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, said. “We bring the trucks, show them the different kind of equipment we have, and kind of explain to them what we do, the types of situations we deal. That way the community can come and see what we have.”
Celebrate Your Local Heroes Day has been a tradition at the Dairy Creme Corner for the past four years, and allows for community individuals to meet and connect with the people who could someday save their life.
