Traffic was backed up for miles on Interstate 79 Friday evening after three separate crashes that took place within close proximity to one another in Marion County. The first two accidents took place in the area of Exit 139 in the southbound lane. The first crash, at 5:28 p.m., was a single-vehicle accident with no injuries, according to Winfield District Fire Chief Jim Martin. The car came to rest in the median. “He (the driver) said he hydroplaned, got into the median and hit the cable guard rails,” he said. “Part of the cable guard rail system was down already…he went through it and ended up over here.” A short distance up the road, first responders were also busy, this time with a three-vehicle accident involving a Nissan car, a Kia Rio and a Dodge Ram truck that occurred at 5:40 p.m.
