Update: 11 vacant houses have caught fire in Huntington so far in 2019

Empty, vacant houses are a common sight in cities in our region. And many times, these homes and buildings pose a danger for the public. Wednesday morning in Charleston, fire burned through a vacant home on Beech Avenue. That fire then spread to a home next door where people were living. That fire happened just a day after one at a vacant home in Huntington. That one happened Tuesday at a house in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue. The fire spread to two homes next door where people were living. Click here to see that story. Huntington Fire Marshal Matt Winters says this a problem that cities across our country are facing. In Huntington, there have been 13 fires so far in 2019. Of those, 11 were in vacant homes or buildings. Two of those then spread to homes next door. Investigators say when these catch fire, it puts neighbors' lives at risk.
