The City of Beckley has hired four Beckley Fire Department firefighters to be code enforcement officers, as part of a new initiative to streamline code enforcement in city limits and to give fire departments more familiarity with the structures they protect. Adam Carrico, Andrew Garland, Derek Cook and Donald Morgan, all firefighters, are now certified building inspectors, under the plan that was first discussed two years ago by Chief Code Enforcement Officer Bob Cannon and BFD Chief Edward Wills and enacted a year ago. "These guys are good," Cannon said. "They all trained and mastered their certification test, and it's been good. "There will be more coming."
