City council delayed its decision, Monday, on whether to create a proposed public safety director for the city, or to make adjustments to the work schedule procedures for members of the Weirton Fire Department.
Council had been slated to hold the second reading of an ordinance modifying the fire department’s work schedule to create a 212 hour/28 day work rotation. A second reading also had been set to create the public safety director post.
Late last week, the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 948, which represents members of the city fire department, filed a petition to seek injunctive relief against the city to prevent the proposals from moving forward.
During Monday’s meeting, City Attorney Vince Gurrera noted the petition for injunction currently is before 1st Judicial Circuit Judge Jason Cuomo.
“Out of respect and deference for his decision, I would recommend we table both of those,” Gurrera said.
Council agreed to table both ordinances with a unanimous vote.
