Hundreds of people gathered in Spencer Park on Friday evening for the 78th annual Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Ice Cream Social.
Along with ice cream, the social featured cakes, pies, cookies, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, pop, water, games for the kids and hot dogs provided by the Ladies Auxiliary along with entertainment by Plan B.
Tawnya Delancey, of Vienna, and her two children were among the hundreds attending Friday’s social. Delancey said she was born and raised in Vienna and has been attending the event all of her life.
“The kids love it. It’s great for families,” she said.
Fire Chief Steve Scholl said the social is the only fundraiser conducted by the department each year. It also serves as a community homecoming for many of the visitors and a way for the department to thank the community for its support, he said.
