A small fire Wednesday afternoon has temporarily displaced several residents of an apartment building in Parkersburg, authorities said. Parkersburg firefighters responded to the fire at 2717 Bird St. about 3:45 p.m., according to Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews. Matthews said one person who was having trouble breathing was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center to be checked. Matthews said the American Red Cross was called to assist four families who lived in the building because electricity had to be turned off, and that two other families were staying with relatives. “There was overall an estimated $10,000 in damage and everyone should be clear to return tomorrow or the next day,” Matthews said Wednesday. The cause of fire, which was in the void space above the ceiling of the first-floor apartment, is still under investigation.
