After an investigation by the West Virginia Fire Marshals Office, the fire at a Cloverdale Height home in Charles Town has been ruled as an accidental propane explosion, according to Supervisory Investigator George A. Harms of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Larry Herbst, fire chief of Citizens Fire Department, said at approximately 12:45 p.m., an explosion set fire to the home in the 500 block of Cloverdale Road, injuring two individuals.
Harms also confirmed Tuesday that the two individuals injured in the fire were the homeowner and a maintenance technician.
The HVAC technician was airlifted to Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., and the second victim was driven to Jefferson Medical Center, Herbst said. He said he was unclear on the extent of their injuries.
