The Morgan County Commission will have a special session at 9 a.m. Friday to discuss purchase options for new portable emergency radios — the second such purchase in five years. The meeting is open to the public. Morgan County Emergency 911 Communications Center Director Ron Mason recently reported to the commission that previously purchased radios sometimes fail and are hard to update when there are system updates in the statewide State Interoperability Radio Network. Radios the county purchased in 2014 were Kenwood brand for emergency personnel and part of a system-wide county upgrade for in-vehicle radio equipment, paging, tower equipment and portable radios. With the West Virginia SIRN system and upgrades, emergency and law enforcement personnel were supposed to be able to communicate better with each other throughout the entire state and even across state lines when dealing with colleagues in other jurisdictions.
