The Weirton Traffic Commission is recommending the extension of yellow “no parking” areas at several intersections in the city’s downtown following a recent structure fire. The requests, focusing on five intersections along Orchard Street, had been forwarded to the commission by Ward 4 Councilman George Ash. Fire Chief Jerry Shumate explained his department recently had responded to a structure fire at 3725 West St. Extension. The layout of the streets and current parking regulations make it difficult for fire trucks to navigate through the area. “We cannot get a fire truck from one end to the other,” Shumate said. Shumate said he and Ash had discussed the issue, and felt extending the no parking zones at the selected intersections would assist in providing access.
