A Western Fire Chiefs Association endorsement is highly sought after by candidates for IAFC office. Our practice is to invite written responses to questions, followed by a telephone interview by our Board of Directors. Our Board would then vote on which candidate to endorse. In 2016, we adopted a new policy for candidate support and endorsement. Under this new policy, we could vote to endorse a single candidate, support one or more candidates, or support no candidate. A full endorsement requires unanimity among the board, ensuring that any candidate earning our endorsement can count on the support of each state and territorial delegate in the Western. Absent a full endorsement, we also have the ability to offer our resources, tools, and backing to any number of candidates that we think share our vision and values, and will work to pursue critical issues of interest.

Following engagement with both candidates, Western Fire Chiefs Association is proud to endorse Fire Chief Dan Munsey for the position of 2nd Vice President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). With his extensive experience and unwavering commitment to the fire service, WFCA strongly believes Chief Munsey embodies the values and leadership qualities crucial for advancing the IAFC's mission. Additionally, Chief Munsey's dedication to promoting innovative solutions as well as highlighting our collective fire service needs aligns seamlessly with the goals of the WFCA and IAFC.

During his interview with the WFCA Board, Chief Munsey articulated a clear vision focused on collaboration, engagement, while also demonstrating a willingness to not shy away from the significant challenges that may arise. His leadership within the fire service is widely recognized and appreciated. OCFA Fire Chief Brian Fennessy articulated this in the following way: “Chief Munsey’s candidacy for IAFC 2nd Vice President represents another forward-thinker joining the current IAFC Board of Directors. Chief Munsey is leading the US Fire Service in important areas such as innovation and technology. His leadership and engagement as a FIRESCOPE Board Director and as the California Metro Chiefs Association Vice President have helped prepare him well for the responsibilities that come with being a member of the IAFC Board of Directors.”

Voting begins on May 14th and will end June 18th. We urge every member to vote, and strongly consider joining us in supporting Fire Chief Dan Munsey when casting your ballot.
