A car became stuck on the railroad crossing at Trainor Gate Road on Wednesday after a motor vehicle accident, according to the Fairbanks Firefighters Union. The Fairbanks Fire Department responded to the scene and found the vehicle had become stuck with its tires parallel to the ruts of the train tracks, preventing it from turning to drive off the railroad crossing. Officers first called in the situation and requested a stoppage of any inbound trains before hauling the car safely off the tracks. “The potential for a train derailment/collision is very real in Fairbanks with several highway crossings across the borough,” said the Fairbanks Firefighters Union. “The dangers of a catastrophic environmental event or a fatal collision cannot be overstated.”
