Smoking materials are being blamed for a fire that damaged the garage of a Suwanee home and displaced three people Thursday, according to a Gwinnett County fire spokesman.
Firefighter Driver Engineer Donald Strother said a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report smoke and flames at the two-story home on the 1800 block of Belmont Creek Pointe in unincorporated Suwanee. Although three adults live at the home, no one was there at the time, Strother said.
“Per the incident commander, no one was home so firefighters had to force entry,” Strother said. “Attack lines were deployed and a quick stop enabled the crews to keep fire damage contained to the garage. The first and second floors of the structure have extensive smoke damage.”
The three people who lived at the home were displaced because of the damage caused by the fire, but Strother said they did not request assistance from the American Red Cross. No one was injured during the fire either.
