Smoke detectors and batteries were high on the Christmas wish lists from the Newnan Fire Department and Coweta County Fire Rescue. Both departments’ wishes came true Friday morning as the American Red Cross delivered more than 540 smoke detectors to the Newnan Fire headquarters on Jefferson Street. The delivery is part of the annual “Twelve Days of Christmas” campaign. Beginning Monday, firefighters from both departments will be going door to door in neighborhoods throughout Coweta County giving out smoke alarms to residents who need them. The firefighters will also install the equipment and check existing smoke detectors for free.
