The Lee County Fire and Emergency Chief, David Forrester, said in the last year their paramedics and firefighters came into dangerous areas where firearms were involved. Now they will be equipped with body armor, like bulletproof vests. Chief David Forrester said they sold some surplus land for around $10,000 that will cover the cost of the body armor. Tuesday night, the Lee County Commission okayed the purchase. The armor will be available to any on-duty employee to wear during emergency calls. Chief David Forrester said nowadays you never know what you could be walking into when you get an emergency call and that's why he wants to protect his employees.
