They hope it doesn't happen in Quincy again, but firefighters are now better prepared to handle an airplane crash after training Wednesday.
Firefighters spent the morning at the training facility on North 18th Street learning the proper ways to fight fires involving planes. They also practiced tactics to save passengers.
Quincy firefighters haven't had to deal with a significant plane crash since two planes collided at the airport in 1996, killing 14 people. But, Salrin says it's important to stay prepared.
"This is something we don't deal with on a daily basis fortunately, or even yearly," Deputy Fire Chief Steve Salrin said. "It's been quite some time since we've had to deal with this, so keeping our skills honed in this particular role that we play as emergency responders is important."
