Three people were injured in an extra-alarm fire at an East Chatham apartment building Monday evening, according to officials.
The fire in the three-story building in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue began just before 6:30 p.m. It was under control by just after 7 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department's official Twitter account. Fire officials had called a 2-11 alarm and an emergency medical services plan 1, which sends at least five ambulances to a scene. Three people were being treated for injuries suffered in the fire, but all three were expected to be released at the scene, according to the department.
A person who firefighters had been looking for in the burned-out building was found to have been at his work, according to the department.
