Firefighters were able to put a building fire out yesterday, but it wasn't easy.
It happened early yesterday morning at Mother's bar on Monroe in Charleston.
The aftermath left more than a dozen people homeless — and a piece of the city's history in rubble.
Firefighters say this was one of their more difficult fires in recent memory.
It's because the bar was connected to an apartment building. By the time firefighters got there, the flames were out of control, and the wind had picked up. What they discovered next made things even more chaotic.
"We don't see typically large structure fires like this."
Charleston Fire Captain James Calvert says fire fighting can be unpredictable.. "every situation changes.." and when they got to the fire at Mother's, they saw just how challenging it would be.
"A lot of moving parts, and there was kind of people everywhere."
