Beardstown Fire and Ambulance has a new chief, who said he hopes to carry on the department’s good work.
On Tuesday, the Beardstown City Council appointed Brian Becker, 44, of Beardstown to the position to replace outgoing chief Heath White. Becker, who has worked alongside White for some time, said he hopes to be able to fill the former chief’s shoes.
“He was absolutely great and well-liked,” Becker said. “It’s going to be big shoes to fill, but he’s also stated that he would work with me and help me with any questions and any trials and tribulations along the way to continue to keep the wheels rolling.”
White announced his resignation following the city’s decision not to hire an additional firefighter, something that would allow him to work a more traditional Monday through Friday schedule instead of 24 hours on and 48 hours off.
