Five people and two pets escaped a house fire Saturday in Indian Trail, the Stallings Fire chief said.
When fire crews arrived around 5:40 a.m. on ROAD, they saw a column of smoke and the house glowing with flames. Crews from four fire stations battled the fire, which grew rapidly because of high winds. When the roof caved in, a firefighter’s leg was trapped, but other firefighters freed him, and he was not hurt.
The chief said the 2,800 square foot house was deemed a total loss. The siding of the houses on either side was also damaged.
