Enka-Candler firefighters had a brush fire off Old U.S. Highway 19/23 under control by about 2 p.m., officials said.
A witness said her landlord was working on his property before the fire broke out and was contained.
"The landlord had been burning some brush to clear out some for a fence," Tiffany Worley said.
Worley said the firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the growing fire.
"I watched them take the hoses and put the fire out and it was pretty big back there, at first, when it first started," she said.
