A 24-year difference separates the newest and oldest fire engine in the Statesville Fire Department’s fleet. The last time Statesville City Council purchased a truck was in 2011 and now city leaders are poised to purchase two. The city’s policy is to use a truck on the front lines for 15 years, then move it to reserve and replace it at 25 years. Statesville’s three reserve engines have outlasted that 25-year policy, having been in use between 28 and 30 years.
