A vacant house was damaged by fire early Tuesday, fire officials say. The fire in the 300 block of Nash Avenue was reported about 5:30 a.m., closing down the surrounding streets for about an hour, said Assistant Fire Chief Harry Brown with the Winston-Salem Fire Department. The fire is under investigation and the extent of damage was not immediately known. This is at least the fifth fire in an abandoned or vacant building since the beginning of the year.
